While working, she also studied for her master’s degree and graduated in 1992 with an MBA in Strategic Management and Planning from Pace University, White Plains, New York.

In 1990, Amy assumed her first corporate human resources job at Nortel (then Northern Telecom) in Valhalla, New York. She transferred to Nortel’s US headquarters in McLean, Virginia in 1992 and remained there until 1995 working as a human resources generalist for multiple business segments including the Federal System’s division, North America Major Accounts, and Nortel Communications Systems.

Late in 1995, Amy took a senior human resources generalist role with the Government Electronics Systems division within Allied Signal’s (now Honeywell) Aerospace Sector. She provided the full scope of human resources functions for finance, information technology, public relations and the marketing and sales organizations.

After spending a year at Allied Signal, Amy was recruited to join Lucent Technologies in 1996 as they approached their “spin” from AT&T. She began as a senior human resources generalist supporting the global finance organization. In 1998, she assumed additional responsibilities and became the Director of Human Resources for the New Ventures organization, a business dedicated to incubating start-up businesses.
